A Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Arctic Hayes Pipe Freeze Kit
August 24, 2023After Aire Street Studio’s photographic collaboration with Arctic Hayes, the team at Aire Street became intrigued about plumbing, and what it’s all about. So, here’s a guide on the Arctic Hayes Pro Pipe Freezing Kit, one of the products which Aire Street Studio photographed, a safe professional way to extend or repair pipework in minutes.
The kit should come with 1 x 300ml Arctic Spray Aerosol Pipe Freezer, and 2 x Arctic Spray Freezing Jackets. Before you get started, it’s a shout to point out that although it can freeze to a whopping -50 degrees, the product has Low Global Warming Potential, so you know you’d be doing the environment a favour by supporting them, and everyone who isn’t a talented and experienced plumber, or is worried about messing it up, don’t worry, consider their Areo Disposable Freeze Kits. It’s even non-flammable!
1.If you want to give the professional kit a try, check your piping is made out of copper, steel, lead, iron or plastic. If it is, this is the product for you, so you should start by checking your pipes fit into one of the categories above. The kit should be able to cover 2 x 8-15mm freezes, 1 x 22m or 28mm horizontal or vertical pipes. But, if you need more, refill cans are available. This product is designed for the well-versed, professional. Start by making sure your kit is correct for your pipes’ material, and making sure you have enough of the product to finish the job. One canister should provide 5/6 freezes on average.
2. Then, start the process by turning the system temperature below 20 degrees Celsius. Your pipe should be below this temperature.
3. Attach the blue freezing jacket to the pipe, securing it with the black cable ties provided in the kit on each side of the kit, about an inch from the edge.
4. Make a small incision near the top. We recommend using a box cutter knife for ease and accuracy. This isn’t included in the kit but can be found in most craft stores or online for under £5.
5. Take the blue pipe freezer spray included in your kit, and add the long white nozzle to the spray head. Now you’re prepared to freeze.
6. Insert the long nozzle into the incision previously made in the jacket. Spray for around 10 seconds.
7. Leave for a few seconds to avoid over spraying. The product can leak from the jacket if you spray too much.
8. Repeat until you reach the dose indicated on the side of the can. There should be an audible click sound, and at this point, you should stop. The ice block has fully formed.
9. Wait for 5 minutes, or 10 minutes if your pipe is made out of plastic.
10. The next step is repairing safely, with no need to drain the pipe. This means your job time is reduced by 85% on average. After the job is done, simply cut the cable ties, remove the jacket, and you’re done in ten steps!
Wasn’t that easy? if you haven’t tried it already. If you’re lucky enough to already have the Arctic Hayes Pro Pipe Freezing Kit on hand, then thanks for following along with us, and we hope we successfully guided you through this product.
