From Runway to Lens: Capturing Fashion Perfection in a Clothing Brand Photoshoot and Modelling Portfolio
August 23, 2023Words & Images by Nicole.
Much to Mark’s dismay, blogger Nicole (me) infiltrated his photography studio once again.
This time, it was to write another beautiful, stunning, irresistible article about a team of wonderfully talented individuals who had taken over the studio for the day to shoot a gorgeous portfolio for an up-and-coming model who everyone should keep a keen eye out for, Elita Atwere (elitaatwere on Instagram).
For all those who aren’t interested in the world of fashion, a model’s portfolio is integral to landing all of those important castings and interviews, and should consist of only the best shots and works; it’s essentially and quintessentially a model’s business card. First impressions matter, so it better be good.
As usual, music was blasting, lights were fine-tuned to get that perfect contrast for definition, and cameras were flashing. We have fun We got the chance to interview the lovely crew, starting with Fashion Photographer (charlottetroughtonphotos), a recent Leeds Art’s University graduate.
We also got Ito meet Videographer Kwasi Ntiforo https://www.instagram.com/kxn.visuals/ who expertly documented all the fun behind the scenes stuff. Kwasi is multi talented digital creator who has a unique skill for distilling eye catching content into reels which captivate you. mad skills !! Have a look at this behind the scenes reel below and check his work, follow https://vsco.co/ntiforo/gallery
A short chat later, I found out they were both freelancers, with Charlotte having hopes of working as an in-house photographer for an agency in the future, or collaborating with the famous, A-List fashion magazine, British Vogue, whilst Kwasi was building his social media empire online, getting his art out there, whilst also studying. Kwasi’s degree not matching up with his other career resonated, with myself doing a Law degree whilst being predominantly a creative. Remember lads and ladettes, you don’t need to pick one. Inspired by the difference in culture and fashion after moving to the UK, Kwasi set out to capture it all, whilst Charlotte developed an ever-growing love for photography in Sixth Form, and has been devoting her time and talent to it ever since. Pretty impressive stuff from both of them if you ask us!
Every fashion and culture lover has favourites, so I strived to figure out theirs. Kwasi lovingly stated ‘we love them all!’, but we came to a conclusion of sharing a love for streetwear-based sports brand New Balance, who have been killing it lately. Aire Street Studio still cant get over their collaboration with The Basement (New Balance X The Basement, 2002R).
As for Elita, when the model isn’t snapping flawless pics, she is a fourth year Psychology student and a professional dancer (since she was only three), even captaining her university’s street dance team. Although with her effortless ability to allure to the camera, one could think she’d be doing this forever, but actually, she’s recently new to the game, jokingly nicknaming herself a ‘modelling newbie’. She claims her biggest inspiration to start modelling was actually her younger sister, who you can check out besides Kate Moss in the new viral Diet Coke campaign, whose been in the modelling game for years.
The most interesting thing I personally noticed about the shoot was actually her fluidity in posing. As an actor or a model, camera and spatial awareness is key to getting the perfect shot on screen, and Elita executed it excellently. After some further questioning, she explained how she uses her dance train to inspire her poses, finding that moving with intention and confidence is key for both. Her dedication with dance extends to her modelling career, evidently, and Elita even went as far as to say her dream job would actually be anything she could combine her dance into. We over here at Aire Street Studio can definitely see the Bella Hadid-core star potential! In fact, she’s got a big casting at ASOS coming up, and we wish her the best of luck of it.
The day ended, three looks and at least a thousand brilliant photos later, and as the team packed up, we took a moment to reflect on the day’s success over some refreshments and music. At Aire Street Studio’s, we offer brilliant portfolio packages for models, whether you have a photographer yourself, or want Mark Wheelwright to snap some pictures for you. If fashion isn’t your passion, but you still want professional photos, and you happen to be in the entertainment industry, or are looking to get into it, we also specialise in gigs and events, having worked events such as Leeds Fest. For all the actors and actresses out there, we also specialise in headshots. After all, you need them to even get your foot in the door of that next big casting!
