Kicking off yet another Aire Street Studio blog post, we have an old favourite. Drum roll, please.
If you guessed KwizzBit, you’d be correct.
They’re a new but popular local company, aiming to spark joy for hundreds of pub goers nationwide and the far flung British Isles & Ireland through their irresistibly fun online quizzes, where participants can join via their phones, whilst pubs like the Old Manor stream it live. The lucky morsels that happen to win can expect a prize of an Amazon voucher up to £100, as well as a beautiful blue (as Boris Johnson may say), one-of-a-kind KwizzBit shirt. At Aire Street Studio, we truly think these quizzes are not the ones to be missing.
This time around, Aire crew members Paula and Nicole helped out, providing in-house technical support to the KwizzBit team, whilst the fabulous, engaging and unstoppable force that is Emma Jones hosted the pub quiz. If that name sounds familiar, and you happen to be a football fan, you might recognise her as a well-known sports presenter on LUTV and other platforms.
Our Aire Street Studio photography team and the KwizzBit members started working their magic on the live stream by putting in place a TV screen teleprompter (for the transcript), and setting up the perfect lighting to aid the-already-beautiful Emma Jones. For the readers discretion, she said she loved doing the pub pop quiz, by the way. Aside from that, we helped the KwizzBit crew helping behind the scenes too, assembling top-of-the-line HD LED camera monitors, professional sound equipment, and perfectly adjusted stands (all wires safely taped down, don’t worry), just so they could get the perfect shot, and enjoy the live entertainment BTS, viewing it just as people in the pub would. This also meant they could listen and look for any flaws in production. Luckily, there was only one.
To our horror, the KwizzBit team quickly realised that, upon setting up the monitor, a part of the studio wall visible to viewers. Luckily, our team is well versed in tackling faults in production, and we knew we had to fix it. We just couldn’t compromise our high standards, so we removed every single piece of black and yellow tape, and moved all of the filming equipment around carefully, adjusted camera angles until everything was perfect, and all that was visible in frame was the funky turquoise (says Nicole) (aqua blue Colorama says Mark) KwizzBit backdrop, and then we recalibrated our mark, meticulously placing it back in the centre as to guide our presenter to ‘centre stage’, providing a polished finished look, which we ensured by looking through the monitors. Everything the viewer could see and hear live, so could we. Then, we taped everything back down to reduce the possibility of slips and trips on the jam packed set. Meanwhile, Emma Jones refined her appearance as she saw fit in our in-house makeup and hair station.
But we’re not all equipment, no fun. Refreshments and foods were flowing, tunes were blasting, and party poppers were popping (as seen in hero image) as the KwizzBit team took over Aire Street Studios. Once the quiz started, our team silently even joined in on the first round of the popular trivia quiz. To our dismay, most of our answers were incorrect.
Paula expertly adjusted sound and lighting to meet the needs and requirements of the KwizzBit team, and assisted in assembly, whilst checking in consistently to make sure all crew members were content and didn’t require any refreshments. Meanwhile, Nicole snapped images of the whole process and early took notes for the blog.
As the live stream production for that week came to a finish, both teams took a minute to reflect on the trials and tribulations of the day, discussing how and what they’d improve, and the day’s undeniable success’ whilst amicably exchanging jokes, casual conversation and forlorn see-you-laters, as team member Paula was set to return to Germany. We were delighted to experience live streaming with KwizzBit, and here at Aire Street Studios we are honoured to be cherry-picked by them to host once again.
Being able to have the right equipment and attitude for any production or project in-house is very important to us at Aire Street Studio, and this is just one example of the team going above and beyond to help out as much as they can. If you want to partake in the professional live streaming fun, our founder and photographer, Mark Wheelwright, recommends being able to have access to at least a laptop, a monitor, a camera, a mic, and a friend. If all of that is too expensive or too hard to find, feel free to pop in to Aire Street Studio, located at the heart of Leeds, right by the train station. If we’re too far, get into contact with Mark himself at hello@airestreetstudio.co.uk , get a quote and come meet the team. And since we love them so much, here’s our other piece on KwizzBit, for all of those who haven’t got their fill yet you can read along here >>>
